Energy is a promotional-only CD single that Capitol Records issued in 1993 to support Happiness, Lisa Germano’s second album and her major-label debut. No commercial version of Energy was ever issued.
The single contains a single track, the album version of “Energy” running 3:48, with no B-sides, remixes, or edits.
Background
On the original Capitol sequencing of Happiness, “Energy” was track seven of thirteen, immediately following “Miamo-Tutti.” PopMatters’ retrospective on the album identified it as the song that opens “side two, so to speak,” describing its strummed guitar as continuing the same “almost-Americana” quality heard on “You Make Me Wanto Wear Dresses.”
Malcolm Burn produced the album and mixed most of its tracks himself at Kingsway Studio in New Orleans, but “Energy” was mixed separately, by Paul Mahern at Pinebrook Studio in Alexandria, Indiana. This is confirmed on the Happiness album’s own Discogs credits, and matches the promo single’s own credit listing (Mixed By: Paul Mahern). Germano is credited as the song’s sole writer.
“Energy” also carried over to the 1994 4AD reissue of Happiness, appearing there as track five in that label’s substantially resequenced running order.

Packaging & Design
The Energy promotional singler was issued in a standard jewel case without any cover artwork. The disc itself features the same color and font treatment as the original Happiness album, listing Germano’s name, the track title, duration, and standard label copy. The back cover takes a tightly cropped portion of an image of Lisa looking through a hole, which was found in the original album jacket, and pairs it with a cropped version of the album’s back cover.
No commercial single was ever released.

Lyrics
You never wanted this to last
You’d always rather feel bad
Who hurts most, is what you wonder
Who had the hardest day
I have to ask you, what’s your problem?
I don’t believe that you love anyone
Who do you miss when you get hungry?
‘Cause you don’t miss me
Lying by your side
I can feel your energy
And I want it to be mine, mine, mine
‘Cause you don’t talk like you used to do
You don’t act like you you used to
And you don’t laugh like you used to do
You don’t seem want to
Give me your energy
Give it to me
I want your energy
Give it to me
Me, me, me
I always thought you don’t like you
Well, I do. I’d rather be you
Lying by your side
I can feel your energy
And I want it to be mine, mine, mine
‘Cause you don’t talk like you used to do
You don’t act like you used to
And you don’t laugh like you used to do
You don’t seem to want to
Give me your energy
Give it to me
I want your energy
You in me
I want your energy
Give it to me
I want your energy
Give it to me
